Head of Quality Assurance

Job Description

  • Establish a quality assurance and improvement program for the Group Audit function, covering all audit teams.
  • Regularly perform QA reviews and report on the results of these to the GCA
  • Continuously Identify areas for quality improvement, define training needs and deliver these tailored trainings to the respective audit teams in units and in Head Office.
  • Managing relationships within the key group audit stakeholders in Bahrain and in the units
  • Key responsibility for adherence and contributing to the audit methodology and supporting tools (B-Wise/GRC tool)
  • Key point person for maintaining and enhancing the Audit System B-Wise (GRC Tool) and ensuring alignment of the system with evolving requirements within the Audit Methodology.
  • Delivering monthly value-add management information reports to the GCA and Senior Management.

Key Activities

  • Oversee the ongoing enhancement and implementation of Group audit policies and procedures.
  • Keep abreast of new IIA developments, laws, regulations, rules, group and local policies, products, technologies and projects and consider implications for the audit coverage.
  • Maintain and update comprehensive audit risk universe and auditable entities across the group, including gathering and incorporating new information impacting this universe and auditable entities.
  • Support the development of the Annual Audit Plan for Group Audit on risk assessment taking into account business monitoring activities and specific requests from Management.
  • Define the annual Quality Assurance plan and deliverables, assuring adherence to Group Audit and international standards and requirements related to code of ethics, principles, staffing, methodology and the quality of work papers, deliverables and reporting. and agree with GCA
  • Perform QA assignments in line with the approved Annual QA Plan, and define and deliver specific training where required.
  • Regularly report to the GCA on the outcomes of the QA assignments.
  • Administer and maintain a follow up system for recommendations and action plans resulting from internal QA engagement outcomes, and track remediation
  • Administer the general operation of the B-Wise system for evaluation of audit risk and long term planning – assisting the GCA and audit Heads / Heads of audit in this area.
  • Assist the Group Audit in the maintenance and continuous enhancement of the B-Wise system, it use and functionalities.
  • Key point person for maintaining and enhancing the Audit System B-Wise (GRC Tool) and ensuring alignment of the system with evolving requirements within the Audit Methodology.
  • Maintain an appropriate, pro-active, constructive and balanced relationship with audit Head and Heads of Audit in units, supporting Group Audit in the fulfillment of obligations and responsibilities in respect of governance, risk management and internal controls.
  • Maintain, coordinate and report monthly on the pro-active and effective tracking / monitoring of progress achieved with the implementation of agreed corrective action plans related to audit reports published via the Monthly and Quarterly Issue track reports.
  • Pursue continuous development of knowledge, skills, experience and professional certifications to support Internal Audit responsibilities. Seek coaching and mentoring with colleagues whenever required for career development and achieving greater responsibilities in future.

Job Context (Circumstances & environment surrounding the job):

Group Audit (GA) consists of a Bahrain-based team plus local Group Audit teams based in overseas units of the bank. GA is responsible for providing independent assurance on the adequacy and effectiveness of the bank’s internal controls to the Executive Management and the Board of the bank (via the Audit Committee). This is achieved by completing Audit assignments according to a risk-based Annual Audit Plan. The findings of the Audit assignments are included within published Audit Reports which contain findings requiring management to undertake corrective actions to address any control weaknesses identified. Reports and issues are also presented to the Audit Committee of the Board of the bank on a quarterly basis.

Given the nature of GA’s role within the business, the job holder is expected to uphold the highest standards of integrity and confidentiality at all times. The volume, importance and confidentiality of the material with which the job holder will deal with will require a strong sense of discretion and the ability to organize and present material in a cogent way.

Group Audit staffs liaise with individuals at all levels within the organization, including Executive Management and Board members. The job holder will be required to conduct all interactions with courtesy, respect and professionalism.

Job Requirements:


  • Strong knowledge of risk-based auditing methodologies, international standards of the IIA, processes and sound internal audit practices
  • Strong knowledge of audit software (BWise, IDEA, ACL).
  • Demonstrable knowledge of the banking business
  • Strong knowledge base of Central Bank regulations
  • Fluent in English (and second language desirable: Arabic or French)

Education / Certifications

  • Bachelor / Masters’ degree preferably in finance, accounting, banking, auditing, management or related subjects.
  • Mandatory professional qualification such as CA/ ACCA/ CPA/ CIA/ CBA / RA preferred


  • Ideally 10+ years of Audit experience of which at least 5+ years in Internal Audit with extensive knowledge and experience in Internal Auditing Standards and Quality Assurance Programmes.
  • Multi-national experience preferred.
